    In 1849 California joined the Union as a free state which made the balance unstable. So then The U.S. secretary Henry Clay thought up an agreement that would satisfy the North and the South. In Washington D.C. slave trade was illegal, a territorial government was created in Utah and New Mexico, they set a boundary between Texas and New Mexico.
    This help is lead to the civil war because the North and the South were arguing about what states are slave states and free states.

    Around May 30, 1854 the act repealed the Missouri Compromise, allowed for popular sovereignty, and created two new territories, Nebraska and Kansas this also lead to Bleeding Kansas. This help lead to the Civil War because people we fighting over if the state should be a slave state or a free state

    There was repeated violence between pro-slavery and anti-slavery people after Kansas was created and around 55 people were killed between 1854-1856. This help lead us to the Civil War because it forced future heated debates about slavery.

    Preston Brooks vs Charles Sumner 1856
    Preston Brooks attacked Charles Sumners in the senate chamber because his speech were attacking the institution of slavery and pro-slavery senators. Sumners had to take leave because the injuries were bad and Brooks was fined for assault and was expelled him.
    This help led us to the civil was because it was a first note of a pro-slavery senator attack an anit-slavery senator in the senate chamber.

    The Supreme Court ruled that Americans of African descent, if they are free or slave were not American citizens and could not sue in federal court. And that the Congress doesn't have power to end slavery. This led to the Civil was because this case enraged the North because congress has no power to ban slavery

    Lincoln-Douglas Debates
    They were talking about how slavery influenced America. It was Douglas accusing Lincoln of being an abolitionist and Lincoln accused Douglas of wanting to nationalize slavery. This help lead to the Civil War because Lincoln wanted to end slavery and Douglas didn't want to so people that would agree or disagree would fight with each other about that matter.

    John Brown’s Raid on Harpers Ferry
    Around 1857, Brown recruited six prominent abolitionists, known as the “Secret Six,”. His “army” grew to 22 men and they rented a Maryland farm near Harpers Ferry and prepared for the raid. At the night of Oct 16, 1859 they launched their attack on the arsenal. but by the morning they were surrounded by U.S. Marines led by Colonel Robert E. Lee and Lieutenant J. E. B. Stuart. The reason this led us to the Civil War because it stopped the agility to make peace between the North and the South.

    The ballot ticket had Abraham Lincoln and Hannibal Hamlin and ten slave states were absent. Majority of the Northern states had slavery banned and the majority of the electoral votes were from the north so Lincoln won. This help lead to the Civil War because there were a lot of slave states that didn't like Lincoln because of his goal to end slavery.
