    Fugitive slave act law was passed to ensure the return of runaway slaves to the south.

    A book written by Harriet beecher Stowe.
    A book that wanted to end salvery. North read it and wanted slavery to be abolished.
    South said it was all fake and lies.

    People in the western territories could vote if the wanted to be free or slave state.
    Hearing this, people from the south and north started flooding Kansas.

    Dred Scott, a slave, sued for his freedom in court. Court said since he was African american and a slave he was considered property and was not a citizen.

    Both Lincoln and Douglass were running for senator of Illinios. Lincoln debated about slavery saying how wrong it is. Though Douglass won th election. Lincln became famous.

    In Virgina John brown lead a slave revolt trying to end slavery. Brown became the martyr in he cause of slavery.

    In 1860 voters voted by voting for the person that lived in your region.
    Lincoln had said he wanted to stop the spread of slavery and if he won the south had said it would secede. Reasons for south to secede. Disagreement over states rights and breakdown of compromise.

    First battle. South opened fire first and at first part of Virgina was part of it.
