Comromise of 1850
The compromise of 1850 was five laws all put together in attempt to end slavery. It created a four year confrontaion between the North (anti-slavery) and the south (pro-slavery). -

The Fugitive Slave Act declared that all runaway slaves could be caught and taken back to their masters. This put northerners in fear of slavery and the South becoming even more powerful. -

Dred Scott Decision
Dred Scott had tried to sue for his freedom in a Slave state, but since he was black he wasn't a citizen and couldn't sue. Taylor Blow had then bought him and set him free. He ad died one year later. -
John Brown's Raid on Harper's Ferry
John Brown and his followers were abolitionsists. One night they left their hideout and went into town. They had captured citizens and set fires. -

SOme say they were the "first to act", they were also a source of troops for the confederacy. South Carolina did not support Lincoln at all.
