  • French and Indian War

    A). The French and British both wanted to expand their land into the Ohio territory. The French believed they had exclusive rights to the land and tried to force the British out. This caused the French and Indian war.
    B).The French and Indian war lasted for seven years and revolved around the French and their allied natives fighting for land in the Ohio territory against the British.
    C).The British won the French and Indian war causing them to gain control over North america, Also a huge debt.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    A). The proclamation of 1763 was a document that forbid any colonial settling on the west of the Appalachian Mountains .This document was an attempt by King George III to try and make the Natives who were against him in the French and Indian war a little less hostile.
    B). This enraged many colonists who felt that they deserved this land after fighting and risking their lives in the war. Many felt betrayed because this was crucial to the colonies.They now could not trade or settle on new land.
  • Sugar Act

    A).In 1764 Parliament passed the Sugar act.
    B). The sugar act was a tax on sugar and molasses targeted at the colonies. This was an attempt to Rid Britain's war debt and prevent smuggling from France and Spain.
    C).The Sugar Act is significance because unlike past laws this didn't favor the British. The sole purpose was to rid Britain's debt and rebuild.
    D). Colonist responded to the Sugar Act by openly protesting. They would boycott many luxury British goods and began producing their own.

    A). In 1765 Parliament passed the stamp act.
    B). The stamp act was a law imposed on all American colonies which required a government stamp on documents and any printed paper they use.
    C).The colonies responded to the Stamp Act by protesting with songs, documents, and mobs. One of these mobs being the Sons of Liberty who would harass and tar and feather tax collectors. Virginia House of Burgess would end up adopting four resolves on May 30, 1765.

    A). The Quartering Act was a law passed which forced colonists to provide food, shelter, and any accommodations to British Soldiers.
  • Stamp Act Congress

    A). The Stamp Act Congress consisted of nine colonies who came together to discuss the Stamp Act.
    B). The Stamp Act Congress was held in NY City.
    C).The purpose of this meeting was to create a unified protest against the new British taxation.
    D). The British ended up passing a new act which was the Declaratory Act. This Let the colonist know that the British do take in what they are protesting for but they still have the power to enforce laws and control.

    A). The Declaratory Act was a law that followed the repealment of the Stamp Act. This act stated that the British had the same control over America as they do in Great Britain.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    A).Charles Townshend introduced the Townshend Acts to the English Parliament.
    B).The Townshend Acts were a series of taxes placed on glass, paint, oil, lead, paper, and tea to help control the profits made by the colonies. This Influenced the Writs of Assistance which allowed for homes and ships to be searched without a warrant..
    C).The tax money from the Townshend acts was used to pay off British officials.
    D).The Colonies responded by resistance at the Boston Massacre And the Boston Tea Party.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    • A crowd of people gathered at the Customs house and began to harass a soldier. -Thomas preston along with 9 soldiers came to the Customs House to provide the soldier help.
    • The crowd continue harassing the soldiers and someone yelled "Fire" causing soldiers to unload on the crowd. This resulted in 5 deaths.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    A). The Boston Tea Party was led by the Sons of Liberty.
    B). The Boston Tea Party was was the colonists reaction to the Tea tax which was a part of the Townshend Acts.
    C). - American colonists dressed up as indians.
    - The dressed up colonists dumped out barrells of tea into the
    Boston Harbor.
    D). The British responded by shutting down the Boston harbor until all of the barrells of tea were paid for.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    A). The Intolerable Acts mainly affected the colonist and Boston.
    B). The Intolerable Acts were passed in response to the Boston Tea Party. This act closed the Boston port and altered the government of Massachusetts.
    C).This Act caused the colonist to respond by bonding together and boycotting British goods.
  • Quebec Act

    A). The Quebec act was a law passed by the British Parliament in an attempt to meet the needs with the government in the Province of Quebec more effectively.
    B). The Colonies were enraged because this Act took away their westward expansion.
  • First Continental Congress

    A).The First Continental Congress involved delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies (Georgia did not attend). Some of the founding fathers include: John Adams, Samuel Adams, Andrew Adams, and Thomas Adams.
    B). The Meeting was held at Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
    C). The purpose of this meeting was for the delegates to discuss the Acts and issues that the British have been implementing.
    D). This meeting resulted in the Declaration of Rights which was accepted in 1774 by the king.
  • Battle of Concord & Lexington

    Battle of Concord & Lexington
    A).
    i. During the Battle of Concord & Lexington the British were looking for a hidden weapon cache. The British were also looking for John hancock and Samuel Adams.
    ii.The colonial militia was fighting against the British.
    iii .During this battle 73 men were killed for the British and for the colonist 49 minutemen died.
    B). These Battles were significant because these were the first battles of the American Revolution.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    A). The Battle of Bunker Hill occurred in Boston
    B). The redcoats stormed Bunker hill 3 times and finally defeated the colonist who were at the top f the hill.
    C). This battle showed the british that the colonist could fight and stand a chance.
    D). This battle encouraged the colonists. the colonist had hope now that they could win.
  • Common Sense

    A). The author of the common sense pamphlet was Thomas Paine.
    B). Paine wrote this pamphlet as a way to spread the word to colonist that they needed to establish independence.
    C). This Pamphlet was significant because this encouraged the colonist to keep fighting and it motivated them to gain independence.

    A)The Second Continental Congress involved delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies (Georgia didn't attend). Some of the founding fathers were: Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock, Andrew Adams, and George Washington.
    B)Meeting was held in Philadelphia.
    C)The purpose of this meeting was for delegates to discuss the Battle of Lexington & Concord and their independance.
    D)The result of this meeting was the creation of The Olive Branch Petition and the Declaration of the causes & Necessity of taking up Ams
  • Declaration of Independence

    A). The declaration of independence was written by Thomas Jefferson.
    B).The declaration was signed August 2, 1776
    C). This document was significant because it established the Colonies break from England.
    D). The main idea of this document was to encourage the colonists unalienable rights and rid all of the Previous Acts by the British.
    E). The colonies responded by fighting harder and winning thus causing these laws to actually apply.
