Events Leading to the American Revolution
The events leading to the American Revolution was where King George III made many acts that the colonists didn't like, making them want independence. -
Proclamation of 1763
King George III and the parliament wrote a proclamation simply stating that all colonists shall remain east of the Appalachian Mountains. The parliament of Britain wanted this because they did not want to use money to protect the colonists or start another war with the Indians. -
Quartering Act
King George made an act for colonists to quarter British soldiers. Quarter means to house. -
Stamp Act
King George made an act that colonists had to pay taxes on all paper. This was the colonist's first tax. -
Boston Massacre
With the colonists still angry that they had to house British soldiers, colonists began name-calling the soldiers. This is one way tension grew between the two. Finally one day on the street, the British shot a crowd of colonists standing right in front of them! It was a terrible massacre! A massacre is the murder of people who cannot defend themselves. -
Boston Tea Party
A tea company in Britain was beginning to lose money because the colonists were buying their tea from North America. The parliament didn't like that, so they made a law that colonists had to buy their tea from Britain. The colonists were mad about this event. So one day, the colonists dressed up like Indians and dumped the British tea off many different ships into the water. -
First Continental Congress
The 13 Colonies sent delegates to get together to discuss how to settle problems with the British. This is also where the colonies started working together.
