Virginia Resolves
Patrick Henry a young virginia representative proposed ideas of a good enviorment and individual rights. on may 30 the Virginia House of Burgesses accepted most of his resolves, but rejected two. Because they were too radical. They printed all six anyway believing that they were accepted. -
Leaders organize a boycott
Colonial leaders opposed the taxes, but feared the violent crowds. To control the crowds, nine colonists sent delegates to the stamp act congress. The meeting started the boycott on all imported british goods. -
Customs officers seize the Liberty
British customs officers seized the Merchant Ship the Liberty, for smuggling. The ship was the posession of John Hancock who was indeed the owner. He was a well known politition and merchant. Led to riots against the customs officers. -
Boston massacre
One night a group of protestors threw rocks and snowballs ad british soldiers. It was dark so the soldiers fired into the crowd killing 5 colonists -
The boston tea party
Boston patriots dressed as indians and boarded three british ships filled with tea. They dumped the taxed tea into the harbor in anger over the taxes. -
The colonies take action
Delegates from every colony except Georgia met in phalidelphia for the first continental congress. In order to pressure english parliament to withdraw the coercive acts, they boycotted all british inports.
