• Britain proclaimed that colonist could not settle west of the Appalacian Mountains. *Britain did this because they could not protect the colonists and the colonists refused to pay for the protection. *The colonists responded by going anyway and for the first time they felt hostility toward the mother country because they felt England overstepped her authority.
