    Fugitive Slave Act
    This act required all slaves including the ones in the free states be returned to their owners. This act also made the government responsible for finding and returning the lost and escaped slaves. This lead us to a civil war because this caused a lot of hatred between the free states and slave state because this was against the free states wishes.

    Bleeding Kansas

    Bleeding Kansas was was a series of violent civil confrontations in Kansas Territory, and to a lesser extent in western Missouri, between 1854 and 1859. It emerged from a political and ideological debate over the legality of slavery in the proposed state of Kansas. This feed into the civil war because these were civil wars between the states and that created a lot of tension.
  • Kansas-Nabraska Act

    Kansas-Nabraska Act
    This act repealed the Missouri Compromise, created two new territories, and allowed for popular sovereignty. This lead us towards civil war because this created tension within the states.
  • Preston Brooks-Charles Sumner

    Preston Brooks-Charles Sumner
    This event was Preston brooks who was pro slavery attacked Charles sumner with a metal cane who was an abolitionist. This contributes to the civil war because this is where the south and north sides started fighting when the tension is becoming to much.
  • Dred Scott vs Sandford

    Dred Scott vs Sandford
    In Summary Slave Dred Scott sued his master because his master moved from slave territory to free territory. This caused tension because slavery was spreading into the free states and they didn’t like that.
  • Lincoln-Douglas Debates

    Lincoln-Douglas Debates
    The Lincoln and Douglas debate was an agreement of 7 back to back debates in Illinois. These debates were for the senate. Although Lincoln lost this put him on the path to eventually win national presidency. This lead to civil war because these Debates talked about slavery as a main topic this caused tension between north and south because of there views on slavery.

    John Browns raid on Harpers Farry
    Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry and his execution further polarized North and South and made a resolution of the slavery issue the center of national debate.

    Lincoln’s Election
    When Lincoln was elected the south was mad because he was very against slavery. Also, he ended up abolishing slavery. This started the civil war because this was the last straw for the south with slavery.
