    Helped lead to the civil war because it addressed slavery in terms of population and declared slavery constitutional, making it so that you couldn't get rid of slavery without amending the constitution. Slavery was a main driver of the civil war. The constitution never addressed succession. When the south states began seceding, Buchanan who had a strict interpretation of the constitution did not act upon their succeeding because the constitution never addressed it.

    Congress created the imaginary line allowing states south of the line slavery and prohibiting states north slavery. Split the U.S. into slavery & non-slavery which created tension that furthered the division of the U.S. causing it to lead to the Civil War.

    Supreme court ruled congree unable to outlaw slavery in a territory and stated the Missouri Compromise unconstitutional and slaves were property. Upset north and anti-slavery settlers, furthered their cause to fight against slavery.
