Franz Ferdinand's assassination
This is what is said to lead to the beginning of WW1. Franz Ferdinand was assassinated by a Serbian terrorist group called the " Black Hand". He was warned about the group before he traveled to the capital of Bosnia. This gave reason for Austria-Hungary to have war with Serbia. After Austria declared war on Serbia, countries across the world started declaring war on other countries. -
Great Britain declared war on Germany
Britain had given Germany an ultimatum to get out of Belgium by midnight but Germany didn't take the chance. When midnight came around Britain was ready for war and started preparing for war against Germany. -
The first battle of Marne
The battle was fought to the North and East of Paris. Joseph Joffre, the French commander ordered the attack. The French won due to Germany had to outrun their logistics. -

The trenches took from winter of 1914 to the spring of 1918. The trenches spread from North sea coast to Westward of France. The trenches in all were 35,000 miles and 12,000 of the miles were built by allies. -

Voisin 111 was the first to shoot down an enemy airplane. The allied plane used machine guns that were attached to the plane to shoot down the airplane. -

Because of Hitler's invasion on Poland, France and Britain declare war on Germany. Germany shot down and sunk Britain and France's ships. so to that, they bombed German ships. -

Lusitania sinks
The ship was told to do a zigzagging motion to confuse U boats but the ship leader didn't listen. The boat was caring 1,198 people and 128 of them were Americans. -
Germany limits submarines
Merchant ships had to go through the war zone. since they were going through the war zone, they were in danger. some couldn't ship their merchandise because they would sink. So all of the countries agreed to limit the submarines. -
the first tanks
In 1916 the tank was all built and ready for battle. It first appeared in France. Since the tanks were new to the war, they had many malfunctions during the war. They figured out how to improve them, and they were improved in 1917. -
submarines unrestricted again
Germans didn't like the restricted submarines plan. So they kept pushing to make that go away. eventually the unrestricted submarines came back. -
US enters the war
There was a vote of 373 to 50 and America entered the war. The tension between America and Germany arose before ww1 because Britain was America #1 trading people, but America didn't enter the war until 1917. -
the Zimmerman telegram
Zimmerman made a Message to the US in January. In late February, the British decoded and sent the message to the US. The Zimmerman code is now served as Germany's aggression. -
selective service act
the act was passed six weeks after the US joined the war. This gave the US president the power to recruit kids in the war. Allies needed fresh troops to help defeat the central powers. They also needed fresh troops to help relieve warn out men. -
peace between Germany and Russia
Near the border of Poland on March 3, 1918, Russia signed a treaty to all of the other countries that they want to be out of the war. On November 11th, WW1 was put to a complete end. Germany had to give up its territorial gains.
