New France became a Colony
Map of New FranceNew France became a colony in 1763. They came to the New World to trade. Montreal Trade and HBC came under the British mercantilism system. This started an economic shift. French focused on reasorces and the British focused on gaining land. This is important because it started the Francaphone herritage in what is now Canada. -
Struggle for Acadia
In 1713, Britain took control of the French land called Acadia. This is when Britain won the War of Spanish Succession. Gaining control of Acadia was part of the Treaty of Utrecht. Even though the British gained Acadia, conflict between the two did not end. This led to the creaton of Louisburg (Cape Breton) and Halifax. This is important because Acadia was a French community. -
The Great Deportation
This the removal of around 11,000 Acadians by Britain. Britain took their land, homes and other possessions. This is significant because it effected many Francophone people (the Acadians). They lost their culture and home in Acadia. -
Battle on the Plains of Abraham
This is when Britain gained control over Quebec, New France's military stronghold. There was about 4,500 people on each side and many people died. This is important because the Francophone people lost their main military city which effected them a lot. -
Treaty of Paris
It was an agreement between Britain and France that ended the 7 Years War. This is important because France nearly gave up all of its claims in North America to gain Guadoloupe. -
The Last Governor in New France
His name was Pierre de Rigaud de Vaudreuil de Cavagnial. He surrencdered to the British in 1760. This is important because the French lost their colony. -
