  • Rape of Nanking

    Rape of Nanking
    After Japan seized Nanjing, China the Japanese started to cause havoc in China. They murdered and raped many people in Nanjing. Roughly 100,000 to 300,00 people were killed. This is significant because it showed the heinous crimes of the Japanese.
  • Bataan Death March

    Bataan Death March
    During April 1942 the Japanese went to the Philippines and captured 70,000 US and Filipino prisoners of war. They forced them to walk from the southern end of the Bataan peninsula to a prison camp approximately 63 miles. About 10,000 people died or escaped.
  • Doolittle Raid

    Doolittle Raid
    After the bombing of Pearl Harbor the US wanted to strike back at the Japanese. So 16 B-25 Mitchel bombers trained by Colonel James Doolittle planned to take off from USS Hornet and drop bombs on major Japanese cities then land in Chinese-held territory. 13 B-25 were successful in landing so were not as luck. But this event boosted American morale and was the first attack were the US joined the war.
  • Battle of Midway

    Battle of Midway
    Japanese naval forces planned to seize Midway Island but the US intelligence had broken the Japanese code and were prepared for the attack. On this day the US started striking Japan's carrier force. Because of heavy losses, Japan was not able to keep up. This was a big turning point for these two countries.
