  • Joseph McCarthy- McCarthyism

    Joseph McCarthy- McCarthyism
    It is the practice of making accusations of subversion or treason without proper regard for evidence. During the McCarthy era, thousands of Americans were accused of being communists or communist sympathizers and became the subject of aggressive investigations and questioning. Many people suffered loss of employment or destruction of their careers; some even suffered imprisonment. Most of these punishments came about through trial verdicts later overturned, it was said to be unconstitutional.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    Was an important United States Supreme Court case in which the Court said state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students to be unconstitutional. Helped break the back of state-sponsored segregation, and provided a spark to the American civil rights movement. This allowed black students to receive the same education as whites.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    The prolonged struggle between nationalist forces attempting to unify the country of Vietnam under a communist government and the United States (with the aid of the South Vietnamese) attempting to prevent the spread of communism. By 1969, at the peak of U.S. involvement in the war, more than 500,000 U.S. military personnel were involved in the Vietnam conflict.     Soviets launced first man made satellite called Sputnik in 1957. America was caught off guard. This event started a scientific competition to dominate a space travel.     Little Rock Nine
    Governor Faubus sent the Arkansas National Guard to prevent nine Black students from entering Little Rock Central High School. Eisenhower sent in U.S. paratroopers to ensure the students could attend class. They were able to receive the same educations as whites.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was an incident where Soviet missiles were placed in Cuba as a response for help. The event greatly increased tensions between the Soviets and the Americans. As a result, a hotline was established between the two nations to avoid any accidents.

    In 1963 in Dallas, riding in a parade to drum up support for the upcoming presidential election in 1964, JFK was shot twice by Lee Harvey Oswald and pronounced dead at Parkland hospital. Lyndon B. Johnson became the new president of the United States as only the fourth president to succeed an assassinated president. It was only after Kennedy's death that America realized what a charismatic, energetic, and vibrant president they had lost.

Contrasted with Keynesian economics favored by democrats that relied on gov't spending to boost consumer income and demand.

    Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks the body's T-cells, which are necessary to help the immune system fight off infection and disease. The virus appeared in America in the early 1980s. The Reagan administration was slow to respond to the "AIDS Epidemic," because effects of the virus were not fully understood and they deemed the spread of the disease as the result of immoral behavior.
