Magna Carta
Originally drafted by King John of England as a practical solution to the political crisis he faced. It established, for the first time, that everybody including the king was subject to the law. -
Petition of Right
A major English constitutional document that sets out specific liberties of the subject that the king is prohibited from infringing. -
English Bill of Rights
It was an English precursor to of the constitution, the Magna Carta, and the Petition of Right. This limited the power of the English Sovereign, and was written as an act of Parliament. -
Albany Plan of Union
A plan to place the British North American colonies under a more centralized government. -
Boston Massacre
This was the killing of five colonists by British regulars. One cause was because of the heavy tax burdens caused by the Townshend Acts. -
Boston Tea Party
Angry Bostonians rebelled against British taxation and dumped 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor. -
First Continental Congress
Meeting of delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies at Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania , early in the American Revolution. -
Second Continental Congress
