Events During the Colonization of America

  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
    The pilgrims established their own government which they drafted on their journey to the New World on the Mayflower.
  • Rhode Island

    Rhode Island
    Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson were banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Williams founds Providence and Hutchinson settled in Portsmouth. Two other settlements were formed. All four settlements received a charter from England and created their own government called Rhode Island.

    New Hampshire was founded by John Mason and settled by John Wheelwright.

    Protestant sect founded by England. The members believed that salvation was available to all people.

    The Duke of New York gained New Netherlands and New Sweden which had been founded by Peter Minuit. He renamed the whole region as New York.

    The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament. The tax was imposed on all American Colonies and required them to pay taxes on every piece of printed paper they used.
