Missouri Compromise of 1820
Henry Clay wrote the Missouri compromise in 1820 that balanced power in congress by adding two states to the union. Missouri was added as a slave state and Maine was a free state. Anything above the missouri compromise would be considered as a free territory. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Harriet beecher thought it was appropriate to let everyone know what is was like to be a slave. She published her book on the mayflower in 1843 to let everyone know the consequences of being a real slave. She ran into slaves in the underground railroad so she wrote the book. -
Dred Scott Case
Dred Scott and Stanford was involved in this case. Mr. scott was a slave and when he escaped and lived in a free state he became a free person. The case took place in Missouri til’ 1846-1857. This happened because Dred was forced to go back to his original owner even though he thought that since he lived in a free state for a while that he a free person and he took this to court. Dred scott lived in a free state even though he was a black man. -
The Compromise of 1850
The Compromise of 1850 allowed slavery to grow above the missouri compromise line. They attempted to remove slave trade in washington DC and california. Henry Clay wrote the compromise of 1850. This event took place because California was trying to become a free state and it made a big problem. The fugitive slave act was a big part of the compromise in 1850 it allowed officials to arrest anyone accused of being a runaway slave. -
Wilmot Proviso
David Wilmot was a congressmen and tried to convince the House of Representatives about the proviso. The proviso was a proposition of an american law were he wanted to ban slavery in the territory that the Americans were fighting for. -
Fugitive Slave Act
The Fugitive Slave Act was an act were if a free slave or a runaway slave was accused of running away they could be captured and returned to their owners. Also some people that were helping hide them could be punished to like going to jail. Also when the slaves would arrive back into slavery they would be abused and punished. -
Kansas Nebraska Act / Bleeding Kansas
In the Kansas Nebraska Act/ Bleeding Kansas the two states Nebraska and Kansas was divided by popular sovereignty. Nebraska was the peaceful state while kansas was very dangerous and started bloodshed. The kansas Nebraska act was an act to let people decide whether they wanted to allow and live with slavery in their lives or to no be a part of it. Bleeding Kansas was violence in kansas over slavery. -
Lincoln Douglas Debate
In the Lincoln Douglas debate Stephen Douglas worked with Henry Clay to persuading Americans for popular sovereignty. However late Lincoln will accuse for wanting slavery everywhere traveled all over trying to persuade people and two day later Abraham came to the same places with his speech. They had a debate that 12,000 people attended. Abraham Lincoln believed in absolutely no slavery. -
John Brown’s Raid
John Brown’s Raid was a very violent protest that ended with him because executed from his actions. However he thought it was the right thing to do and he thought god wanted him to do it, because he was very religious he gathered a group of people that he convinced them that it was how they would fix the slavery problem. -
Lincoln's Election of 1860
Lincoln’s ELection of 1860 in his election he would criticize slavery amd mock the other candidates saying that they wanted slavery everywhere. Later when he was elected, it was very controversial for the south which cause the Southern Secession. -
Southern Secession
Secession was after abraham lincoln was elected the south started leave and protest about how they wanted slavery. Eventually that lead to the civil war which was the north and the south against one another.
