    Albany Plan
    A plan to create a unified government for the 13 colonies suggested by Benjamin Franklin. It's the plan that sparked the idea to have to colonies under one central government.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    Was imposed on all American colonists that required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. Ship's papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, other publications, and even playing cards were taxed. This act enraged the colonists and set the attitude to fight for a change because they were treated unequal to the englishmen.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The British army soldiers shot and killed several people while under attack by a mob, 5 people died. Only increased tension between the British and the colonists call for independence.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    A political protest by the Sons of Liberty in Boston, MA. Colonists disguised as mohawk Indians boarded British tea ships and dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor. Showed the british and parliament that they couldn't use the colonies to their advantage through unjust means.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    Series of punitive laws passed by British parliament in 1774 after Boston Tea Party . These laws made it harder for the colonists and restricted what little freedom they already had. It helped the colonists grow an even bigger desire for independence.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    British go to confiscate colonial weapons but run into an angry and untrained militia. This resulted in a win for the colonists, killing 700 British soldiers, motivating them and giving the colonists confidence for their fight for independence.

    Begins at battle of Lexington and Concord. The American Revolution was the colonists final act on fighting for independence and breaking away from British rule.

    Convention of delegates from the 13 colonies. Helped manage the colonial war effort and helped colonists move more towards the idea of Independence.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    Adopted by the Continental Congress, American colonies served their political connections to Great Britain. The Declaration was a written document that expressed the colonists motivation for breaking away from Britain and seeking Independence.
  • End of American Revolution

    End of American Revolution
    Peace treaty was finally signed with the British after they admitted defeat in Yorktown. 2 years after the Treaty of Paris finally declared America's in dependence from Britain.
