The Jewish Agency proclaimed the state of Israel. They stated that this is first Jewish homeland in two thousand years. Egypt launched an air assult that evening. Israel and Egypt signed a historic peace agreement. -

Berlin Airlift
On this date, the Soviet Union had blocked all roads and travel pathways to West Berlin. This occured in Response to the AMerican and British officials. The supplies sent from the United States sustained at least two millio lives in West Berlin. -
Formation of NATO
This consisted with the United States and elven other natiobs. This was a mutal defense pact aimed to protect the nations from Soviet Aggression. Not all Americans were happy with NATO. NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. After some time Greece, turkey, and West Germany also joined. -
Launch of Sputnik
The Sputnik 1 was launched at 10:29 p.m. The Soviet Union launched it, this launch was to correspond with International Geophysical year. After a couple year United States launched its own satellite. By then the Soviet already achieved a victory when they launched the Sputnik 2. -
SALT Talks
This was a part of Nixon's plan, when Nixon visted the Soviet Union. He was the first president to visit a communist government. SALT stands for Strategic Arms Limitaion Talks. It limited the number of ICBM's a country could have. -
Assassination of Egyptian President Sadat
He was shot and killed by a group of men in military uniforms. Eleven others were also killed with him. He was killed at an annual victory parade held Cairo. -

Tiananmen Square protest
Chinese troops go through the Tiananmen Square and kill and arrest thousands of pro-democracy protesters. The Chinese government assulted the protesters. For three weeks, the protesters kept up daily protests. These protests were mostly done by young students. -
FAll of the Berlin Wall
This happened when Germanny closes it's borders. This had caused many protests. The new leader of East Germany attempted to restore the stability by allowing people to leave. THis results in a collapse of the communist party. -
Assassination of israeli Prime MInister Begin
He was shot dead, Yatizhak Rabin was his name. He died at Tel Aviv hospital. He was believed to be one of the founders of illegal Jewish settlement.
