Marco Polo

When Marco Polo was 17 years old, he left his home in Venice, Italy to go to Asia with his father and uncle. Four years later, they reached China. When Marco was on his trip he met the king of China and made a journal about his travels.

Ottoman Turks

The Turks were the people for a huge land called the Ottoman Empire. They capured the city of Constantinople and ruled over the Middle East. The trade routes from Europe to Asia were closed down. This meant that Europeons could no longer get spices,gold,and silk.

Bartholomea Dias

Bartholomea Dias was the first to sail all the way around the southern tip of Afrcia. He was trying to get to Asia. He did not make it to Asia because sailors grew hungry and became sick. Dais wanted to sail to India, but his sailors made him return to Portugal.

Martin Behaim - FIRST GLOBE!!!

Martin Behaim was a cartographer that made the first globe. The map was incorrect because it did not have all of it continents and the continents were shaped wrong. Martin Behaim called it the ''Earth Apple.''

Vasco da Gama

Vasco da Gama was the first to sail a water route to Asia, showing the way for furture exploration. He was also the first to sail to India. He returned to Portugal with his ship full of spices.

Waldseemuller

Waldseemuller was a German Cartographer. He decided to name Amercia after Vespucci discover Columbus was wrong and figered out America was a new Continent.

Balboa

Balboa's plan was to find if Vespucci was right. He sailed to Isthmus of Panama. He discovered a big ocean that will be called '' Pacific Ocean'' and clamed the ocean for Spain.

Magellan

Dec 12, 1519

Magellan's plan was to find a way to reach Asia by sailing west around the Americas. He sailed to Brazil, along South Amercias eastern coast, Strait of Magellan, Phillipine Island and back to spain. He named a new ocean ''Pacific.'' HE SAILED AROUND THE WORLD. Found a route by sailing west.

Cortes

Dec 12, 1521

Cortes has been sent from the Spanish government to look for gold ,and he brought with him 500 soldiers, 14 cannons, 16 horses and several dogs. He went to present day Mexico and defeated the Aztecs.

Pizarro

Dec 12, 1533

Pizarro sailed from Panama and landed on the west coast of South America. He defeated the Incas and defeated Atahuallpa the king of the Incas.
