    The Soviet leader, Joseph Stalin, died on March 5th, 1953. Joseph Stalin suffered a massive stroke. It was announced on the radio the next day, with appeals for calm, and the funeral was held in Red Square on March 9th.     Warsaw Pact Formed
    The Soviet Union and seven of its European countrys, Albania, Poland, Romania, Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria sign a treaty establishing the Warsaw Pact, a defense organization that put the Soviets in command of the armed forces of the member states. The treaty called the member states to come to the defense of any member attacked by an outside force. Warsaw pact was setup for the members to defend other members from an ouside force, it lasted up until 1991.
