    Pope Innocent 2 outlawed the crossbow (for a time)

    Mounted warriors started remaining on their horses in battle

    Horses + armor = only rich fight. Horses = it's all about the individual knight. Coat of arms identifies knights. Knights had to first train & get tested. Lots of $ & time required = small but very skilled armies.
  • Hand crossbow introduced in Europe

    Hand crossbow introduced in Europe
    The crossbow was composed of a bow that was made of horn or wood. It was mounted on a stock, had a string connected to the trigger, and had a stirrup for a soldier's foot. Crossbows fired many types of missiles. They shot bolts that were about 15 inches and made of wood or iron, or stones or lead pellets. SCARY! :O
