In 1519 Hernan Cortés and his soldiers landed on the Gulf Coast of Mexico. Their goal was to conquer the Aztec Empire. -
Jamestown colonists arrive in Virginia
Late in 1606, the London Company sent 3 ships and 144 male colonists to Virginia. They sailed 60 miles up the broad James river and built the Jamestown colony. -
Pilgrims settle in Plymouth
The Pilgrims sailed on a boat called the Mayflower and settled in now day Cape Cod. They called it Plymouth. -
The Pequot War
Conflicts erupted in the Connecticut River valley over land and over the Pequot Indians trade with the dutch. The Pequot War ended with a brutal massacre. -
Maryland Toleration Act
The colonial assembly passed the Toleration Act in 1649. It protected the right oa all Christians to practice their religion. -
Charles II Restoration
two years after Cromwell died, a new Parliament invited the son of Charles I to become king. His reign, from 1660 to 1685, is called the restoration because it restored the English monarchy. -
King Phillips War
The Wampanoag leader Metacomet, known to the English as King Phillip, led his people and others in attacks that destroyed colonial towns. In return, the colonists burned villages and crops. -
Pueblo Revolt begins in New Mexico
Pueblo Revolt was a rebellion that gathered Pueblo Indians. They successfully overthrew Spanish rule in Mexico for 12 years. -
Georgia is founded
Georgia the last of the 13 colonies is founded in 1733. It was founded by many people including James Oglethorpe.
