    -As the Roman Empire expanded over time they elected an emperor, Augustus.

    What was this period:
    -Jesus of Nazareth began preaching about love and forgiveness. -Jesus attracted followers quickly along with enemies.
    -Jesus was executed, but rose up from the dead giving proof he was son of God.
    -Jesus began to teach Peter and Paul.

    -What was this period:The Athenian people were the first to set-up a democracy, women and enslaved people didn't vote. Philip II of Macedonia took over Greece, after Philip died his son Alexander the Great took over. Alexander was emperor of Greece, Egypt, Persia, and India, whom they traded with. When Alexander the Great died his empire fell and spread into little kingdoms.

    -After Charlemagne's death, western Europe's empire broke.
    -Since they had no strong government to keep out invaders they started a new system called, feudalism.
    -Feudalism was when kings gave land to nobles, who gave it to military services, nights, and warriors.
    -Most western Europe was made up of poor people who worked for the kings, nobles, church leaders, etc.

    -While in people living in eastern Europe were taught Eastern Orthodox, Greek, and Roman culture

    -Poets, sculptors, and painters such as Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, created stunning masterpieces.
    -Humanism was a way of thinking that gave importance to the society.
