Licence Fee increased

Many Miners and Diggers are finding the Licence fee expensive and unfair, particularly to those not finding gold. They are also not happy with the treatment they are receiving from the police. They all believe they have been corrupt by the police. They now changed the price to 30 shillings for each digger. -
Miners swear to oath under the Eureka flag
November 30th, 1854
A Licence hunt is ordered in the morning by Commissioner Rede. The diggers refuse to show their Licences. Commissioner Rede Acts and troops fire a volley on the fields.Peter Lalor becomes leader of the diggers and calls for volunteers. Hundreds of volunteers swear an oath to defend their rights and liberties under the Eureka Flag -
Robert Rede new Ballarat Gold Commisioner
May 16th, 1854
Robert Rede becomes Ballarat's new gold commissioner. Robert rede was born on the 13th of July, 1815 in Suffolk England.
Robert Rede fixed the miners' problems and was willing to listen to their complaints. However, at the burning of James Bentley's Eureka Hotel he was horrified by the miners and his pride for them may have made him determined to teach the miners a lesson. -
Bentley released and found not guilty of Scobies death
October 12th, 1854
James Scobie was murdered outside Bentley's hotel on the 7th of October.Bentley was a suspect and got arrested and wasofficially not found guilty on the 12th of October. -
Bentley's Eureka Hotel is burned down
October 17th, 1854
10,000 diggers were against Bentley not found guilty. The crowd was so mad they burned down Bentleys hotel. -
Eureka flag flown for the first time

The flag with the southern cross is flown for the first time. A number of 10000 diggers come together and burn their licences. -
Troopers attack the Ereuka Stockade
December 3rd,1854
In the early hours of Sunday morning led by Captain Thomas more than 300 soldiers and police proceed to the Eureka Lead to attack the Eureka Stockade.
At dawn, the Stockade is attacked and a battle follows. Twenty two diggers and seven troopers are officially listed as being killed. Many others are wounded.
Approximately 120 diggers are arrested and marched to the Government Camp.
Over the next few days, thirteen were charged with high treason. -
