Ethics in Psychology

  • 6500 BCE

    Trephination

The medicine man drills holes into a persons skull to release demons, often done without ones permission. This was the start of psychological research on human subjects.
  • Nazi Concentration Camp Experiments

Murder covered up by research. Homosexuals, Jews, and African Americans were sleep deprived, starved, put through unnecessary surgeries without anesthesia, and put through all types of torture.
  • Milgram Experiments - Obedience to Authority

Participants will play the role "teacher" ordered by the experimenter to administer an increasingly powerful series of electrical shock to a "learner." This experiment was done to see at what point would the participants conscience about hurting a human override the orders of a person in authority.
