Minimata outbreak
During the years 1956-1960, Minimata Bay was overtaken with outbreaks of Methyl-mercury. The fish, then consumed by humans posed as the vectors to spreading this deadly poison to humans as well as other animals such as cats. Deadly seizures took place, and it was later decided years later that the factories dumping their waste into the river, were the main reason as to this outbreak. -

Written By Rachel Carson, the book Silent spring brought attention to the issue of pesticides and pollution. Silent Spring brought awareness to the world which marked the beginning of a worldwide protest against pesticides. Implementing safety measures that dismantled the use of DDT in 1970. -

Chernobyl
The explosion of Chernobyl marks one of the worst nuclear accidents of manmade history. It started when reactor Number 4 was undergoing a safety test, but instead suffered a catastrophic explosion and meltdown. Bursting into flames and exploding graphite rods across the contamination zone. 130,000 people in total were evacuated From the surrounding zones, and the area will remain contaminated with radiation for many more years to come. -
Fukushima
2nd Worst Nuclear meltdown in the world. Caused by reactor meltdown from earth quake. Fukushima (Northern Japan), caused the NRA to implement new safety and health regulations, and shows the importance of having safety standards universally.
