Eriksons theory

  • Industry vs Inferiority

September 18, 2002: Industry vs Inferiority
Jason (age 10) tells his mom that he is going to practice the trumpet until he gets the part for the solo during his band concert. One month later he gets the part, and his mom congratulates him and celebrates by treating him to ice-cream. The crisis of this stage is mastering a stage and feeling a sense of accomplishment (industry), or failure may lead to insecurity and/or inferiority.
  • Identity vs Confusion

April 18, 2010: Identity for Confusion
Jason (age 18) has to make a decision about what he wants to do in college. Jason is still in love with the trumpet and decides to go to a school with a good trumpet program so he can continue to play trumpet professionally. The crisis of this stage is that an individual goes on a quest for self-discovery on who they are and what they want to become (Identity) or if you can't find who you are it results in making wrong decisions in your life (Confusion).
  • Intimacy vs Isolation

June 20, 2030: Intimacy vs Isolation
Jason (age 30) just got married to his partner after meeting her during a trumpet competition with his own band. The crisis of this stage is creating close relationships with friends and developing an intimate relationship (intimacy) or finding neither and not being able to develop lifelong friends (Isolation).
