  • Jean's first time walking with her mom: Trust versus Mistrust

Jean's first time walking with her mom: Trust versus Mistrust
Jean (14 months) enjoys her first time walking at the park with her mom. In Erikson's theory, this is the first stage, trust versus mistrust. During this time, they are only infants (newborn - 1 year old) who rely on their caregivers. When the caregiver provides shelter, food, clothes, and security the infants learn to trust. When caregivers are inconsistent and unresponsive toward the infant, they see everything as cold and unreliable. Leading to distrust of others.

Jean's Fifth Anniversary with her boyfriend CJ: Intimacy versus Isolation
Jean (age 24) is celebrating her fifth anniversary with CJ (age 24) and overall just enjoying time together. In Erikson's Theory, this is the fifth stage, Intimacy versus Isolation. The point of time when keeping close friendships and relationships close is important. Or either being unable to keep close friends/relationships and just becoming lonely. This occurs usually because the identity stage is not solved yet or is unsuccessful.
  • Jean's 52nd Birthday!: Generatively versus Stagnation

Jean's 52nd Birthday!: Generatively versus Stagnation
Jean turned 52 today! She is celebrating with her friends and her family. Jean has been working at the hospital as a nurse for about 40 years now. This is the seventh stage in Erikson's Theory, which is Generatively versus Stagnation. During 40-60 years, one is more motivated and productive in society. Like mastering tasks, caring for the family, helping others. One who doesn't get to this point will feel unproductive and feel disconnected from others.
