Initiative vs. Guilt
Aria Norris(3 years old) plays with two dolls, acting as though one is the mother and the other is the daughter. The daughter would try to talk to the mother, and the mother would almost shun the daughter. In Erikson's third stage, initiative vs. guilt, this crisi involves the relationship between child and parent. If parent reacts to child in a negative way, child might develop a sense of guilt. Whereas, reacting in a positive way could reinforce their initiative or purpose. -
Industry vs, inferiority
Aria Norris(7 years old) wanted to learn how to catch a ball. Her dad just "didn't have the time." All of her friends could catch. In Erikson's fourth stage, industry vs. inferiority, the crisis is if the environment around the child is supporting and all for childs want to learn, they begin to feel like they are truly winners. If not supported or encourage they will soon begin to feel inferior. This stage without restrictions from parents or teachers will result in competence. -
Ego Integrity vs, Despair
Ezra Scott, husband of 43 years, survived the life of Aria Norris. Ezra was by Arias side as she slipped away. Before she passed, they told each other memories of throughout their lifetime together. In this eighth stage, integrity vs. despair, involves despair which can lead to depression or hopelessness. This may happen if they look back upon life&are unhappy with how events have unraveled. One may develop integrity if able to see their own accomplishments & view their life as happy/successful. -
Inimacy vs. Isolation
Aria Norris(26 years old) and Ezra Scott made the grand decision to invest the rest of their lives into each other. They believed they were made for each other and were complete soul mates. In Erikson's sixth stage, intimacy vs. isolation, the crisis results in isolation. By avoiding settling down with someone, one may risk being able to develop a sense of commitment, safety, and care within a relationship. This could happen due to fear of commitment, and often leads to loneliness.
