Toodlerhood
During this stage, the child develops a sense of self distinct from others. If the child is allowed some scope for making choices, a healthy sense of autonomy develops, but if there is excessive restraint or punishment, the child experiences shame and doubt. -

Childhood
In this stage of childhood, the child becomes capable of planning activities in a purposeful way. With the encouragement of this new ability, a sense of initiative develops, but if the child is discouraged and treated harshly then guilt is experienced. -

Infancy
During the first stage in life, If the infant is loved and cared for, a sense of basic trust develops that the world is a good place and need not be feared. If not well-loved in infancy, the child learns to mistrust others and to doubt that life will be rewarding.
