  • Industry vs. Inferiority

    Industry vs. Inferiority
    Desiree (age 6) begins playing soccer. When Desiree is not successful, she is taken out of soccer and no longer allowed to play in sports. The industry vs. Inferiority stage can determine a person's confidence based on accomplishments in school, sports, arts, and social skills. A child receiving praise will become industrious and a child receiving criticism may begin to feel inferior.
  • Identity vs. Confusion

    Identity vs. Confusion
    Desiree (age 15) decides to no longer attend church, youth group, or church youth camps after a period of struggling with religion. The identity vs. confusion stage is a period of discovering one's own identity. If a person can freely pursue their wants they will develop an identity. If conflict occurs during this stage it can cause identity confusion.
  • Intimacy vs. Isolation

    Intimacy vs. Isolation
    Desiree (age 20) meets and becomes friends with people she identifies closely with and develops close friendships. The intimacy vs. isolation stage is determined by bonds made in this stage. A person who creates bonds with people they identify with will experience intimacy. A person who struggles to find close bonds will experience isolation.
