    When little bob began crying, his mother was quick to soothe him. During Erickson's first stage, the crisis is between trust and mistrust. If an infant's caregiver is reliable, and consistently nurturing, then the child will begin to trust their caregiver, but if the caregiver does not adequately provide consistent care as well as affection, then the child can develop a sense of mistrust and feel insecure.

    When little bob was at school, he, decided to get all of his classmates together to play. During Erickson's third stage children learn to be more assertive through things like interacting socially and directing games on the playground. When children are urged to and supported when they take initiative, they learn to take initiative and have more control over their environment, but when children are discouraged from independence they may develop guilt around their want for independence.

    Bob took a girl he is interested on a romantic dinner date. In Erickson's sixth stage, individuals form close and intimate relationships and become comfortable with mutual dependency. Those who are not able to build and form these relationships, then they become susceptible to isolation.
