In 1987 the Erasmus programme (EuRopean Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students) was established in 1987 by the European Union to begin student exchange. -
Joining of two programmes
In 1994 the European Commission joined together the Erasmus programme with the Socrates programme in order to "To strengthen the European dimension of education at all levels." -
End of an old programme
The Socrates programme ends in order to make way for a new programme. -
Start of a new programme
The Socrates I programme is quickly replaced by the Socrates II programme. -
A final replacement programme
On the 1st of January in 2007, the Socrates II programme is replaced with the most recent Lifelong Learning programme that is used today. -
Universidad Carlos III studying abroad
In 2007/2008, there were 447 students from this university to study abroad in countries around the world. -
More students continue to study abroad
In 2008/2009, Universidad Carlos III welcomed over 410 students to their university from around the world, whereas 5% of their students were participating in the Erasmus programme annually.
