  • Hunting act in the 1600’s

    Native Americans started to hunt during this time but not everyone in the world caught on to this. It did not effect me.
  • Trees in the 1600’s

    England had few forests left that could provide suitable trees for the giant masts, support timbers, and lumber for their growing Royal Navy and merchant ships.
  • Thomas Malthus

    He published the Principle of Population where he made the observations that the human race would be likely to overproduce if the the population was controlled or reduced.
  • Henry David Thoreau

    Henry David Thoreau was an American essayist, poet, philosopher, abolitionist, naturalist, tax resister, development critic, surveyor, and historian. Though that nature should be persevered by the public.
  • Yellowstone National Park

    A nearly 3,500 square mile wilderness recreation area that sits on a volcano. It is mostly in Wyoming. The park is also in Montana and Idaho. Yellowstone features dramatic canyons, alpine rivers, lush forests, hot springs and gushing geysers.
  • Sierra Club

    An environmental organization in the United States. It was founded on May 28, 1892, in San Francisco, California, by the Scottish-American preservationist John Muir
  • Global Warming

    Svante Arrhenius was the first person to claim global warming. He looked at the correlation between atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and temperature.
  • Forest Service

    Agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This controls about 25% of the land the government owns. Tries to take care of out nation forest and nations grasslands.
  • Theodore Roosevelt

    26th president of the United States. He was also author, explorer, soldier, and naturalist. He established 150 arcs of land as national forests.
  • Dust Bowl

    This was a period of severe dust storms that damaged the ecology and agriculture of the US and Canadian during the 1930s. It caused farm lands to be destroyed.
  • Silent Spring

    A book by Rachel Carson. The book was published on 27 September 1962 and it talks about the harmful effects on the environment of the wild use of pesticides
  • Motor Vehicle Air Pollution Control Act

    The Motor Vehicle Air Pollution Control Act sets the first federal automobile emission standards.
  • Cuyahoga River Fire

    Oil on the river caught on fire and made a damage of a total of 100,00 dollars. Damaged some railroad bridges. Caused people to start talking about cleaning the water.
  • National Environmental Policy Ac

    United States environmental law that encourages the enhancement of the environment and created the President's Council on Environmental Quality
  • Earth Day

    Earth Day events worldwide are held to support environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now celebrated globally by the Earth Day Network and celebrated in more than 193 countries each year.
  • Clean Air Act

    Law in the United States that designed to control air pollution on a national level. It is one of the United States' first environmental laws, and one of the most best air quality laws in the world.
  • EPA

    An agency of the Federal government which was created for the purpose of protecting human health and the environment. Started by Richard Nixon.
  • Arbor Day

    A non-profit preservation and education organization founded in 1972 in Nebraska, United States, by John Rosenow. It is the largest membership organization dedicated to tree planting.
  • The Three Mile Island accident

    A partial nuclear meltdown that occurred on March 28, 1979, in reactor number 2 of Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station. It brought changes to safety procedures in the US.
  • Exxon Valdez

    An oil spill in Alaska, where a ship hit a reef and unloaded hundreds of thousands of oil in the sea. The company was Exxon and the captain was Joseph Hazelwood.
  • Lacey Act

    United States law that bans trafficking in illegal wildlife. This says not to sell or buy any wildlife What would be sold or transported.
  • Haiti Earthquake

    A 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti and caused destruction all across the country. Because of the poor country, the building were weak and they were crumbled very easy.
  • Fukushima Japan

    Place where one of the worse energy accidents occurred. Caused by the tsunami by an earthquake. It caused some reactors to shut down and other to over heat.
  • Pope Francis

    Pope Francis has issued an extraordinary environmental statement calling for environmental justice between the generations and dialogue in the international community
  • Clean Water Act

    This establishes the basic structure for regulating waste of pollutants into the waters of the United States and regulating the water in America.
