    The Environmental Protection Agency was proposed by President Richard Nixon for protection over the environment in the United States. The president proposed this on July 9, 1970.
  • DDT Banned

    A commonly used pesticide for insect control until it was ruled unsafe by the Environmental Protection Agency.
  • Clean Water Act

    This was enacted so the U.S. could govern the water pollution.
  • U.N. Environment Programme Act

     U.N. Environment Programme Act
    An agency of the United Nations that coordinates the organization of environmental activities and helps developing countries in implementing policies.
  • OPEC Oil Embargo

    Arab members imposed an embargo against countries who were supporting Israel in the Yom Kippur war.
  • Convention on the International Trade in Endangered species (CITE)

    A treaty created to protect endangered animals and endangered plants.
  • Endangered Species Act

    The purpose was to protect and recover endangered species and the ecosystems which the endangered species depends on.

    This provides EPA the authority to require reporting, record keeping and testing requirements, and restrictions on chemical substances and mixtures.

    A neighborhood in New York. The neighborhood was known as the location of a 70-acre landfill which caused massive environmental pollution which caused harm to many residents and the wildlife in the area.
  • Three Mile Accident

    Considered the most serious accident in U.S. commercial nuclear power plant operating history. There was a failure in the secondary part of the plant.
  • Union Carbide Plant Explosion

    Gas leaked in the night at the Union Carbide India at the Union Carbide India Limited Pesticide Plant.
  • Chernobyl Nuclear Explosion

    The Soviet Union built this plant in the town of Pripyat. The explosion caused harm to many people.
  • Montreal Protocol

    A global agreement to protect the ozone layer by phasing out the production of ozone-depleting substances.
  • Exxon Valdez Oil Spill

    Exxon was a shipping company headed for California. The oil tanker hit a reef in Alaska causing 11 million gallons of oil to spill into the ocean.

    Signed into law by President Clinton. This act considered the effects of from exposure of pesticides from multiple sources like food, water, and other sources.

    This was also known as the climate change international treaty which they talked about ways to combat climate change.

    This summit continued the existence of widespread undernutrition.
  • BP Oil Spill (Deep Horizon)

    An oil spill that occurred in the Gulf of Mexico. There was not enough cement between the production and protection casing.
  • Paris Climate Accord

    An agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention dealing with, climate change, greenhouse-gas-emissions mitigation, adaptation, and finance. All this is said to start in 2020.
