    Pennsylvania colony governor William Penn ordered colonists to conserve one tree for every five cut down.
    This is important because it is the first known act of enviromental preservation. We should look at this because we need to see that people have always been enviromentally aware and ignoring the impacts of consumption is bad.
  • Yellow Stone preservation

    Yellow Stone preservation
    Congress passed the Yellowstone Act,
    This moment in history is important because it focuses on a larger area that is being saved. Expansion was a alrge part of the US. This act protects the park from being turned into a comercial waste land.
  • Burton Act

    Burton Act
    Congress passed the Burton Act, which preserved Niagara Falls from hydroelectric power facilities.
    Laws passed to help preserve nature is important because a lot of people fight to help save wildlife and few prevale. Having an actual act passed draws attention to the problem.
  • No Nuclear waste

    No Nuclear waste
    The Antarctic Treaty protected Antarctica from the dumping of nuclear waste. To date, 46 countries, including the United States and the former Soviet Union have signed the treaty.
    This is important because a lot of people wold not have known about this issue unless it was brought out to the publics attention. By passing laws and making regulations politicians can put the idea of enviromental conservation into many peoples minnd.

    Congress passed the Wilderness Act, establishing the National Wilderness Preservation System to “secure for the American people of present and future generations the benefits of an enduring resource of wilderness.” This is important because it one of the first acts that tried to ensure it would take affect for many many years.
  • Scenic Rivers act

    The Wild and Scenic Rivers Act passed by Congress and President Johnson to protect waterways from pollution, commercialization, and development. When laws are made for nature preservation it is often a turning point for that time, laws are often passed because so much attention is drawn to one subject.
  • Natinal Enviromental policy act

    Natinal Enviromental policy act
    The National Environmental Policy Act was one of the first laws to establish the broad national framework for protecting the environment. The Act demanded that all braches of government give proper consideration to the environment prior to building airports, buildings, military complexes, highways, parks, and other activities. A lot of other acts passed did not try to target full government backing. This shows that enviromental protection was becoming a bigger issue.
  • Agency

    The Environmental Protection Agency was established to “create and maintain conditions under which man and nature can exist in productive harmony.” The creation of an agency is huge, so now there are not anly laws in place but an institution to help impliment said laws.
  • Kyoto protocol

    Kyoto Protocol implemented as countries around the world pledged to reduce the emission of gasses that contribute to global warming.This is taking the issue world wide and making the world realize that it is not a singular fight to help the enviroment.
  • Grat lake compact

    Grat lake compact
    Great Lakes Compact signed by all eight Great Lakes states in an attempt to prevent distribution and sale of water to nonregions. Lws are beign passed on even greater scales and continue to do good for the enviroment. It will be a hard journey to true enviromental stability with themodern worlds cosnumer culture but being able to have signed documentation of preservation efforts benefits the world.
