The signing happened in 1990. It was signed by George Bush and came after the civil rights act for equality. -

Clarence Thomas getting elected to the supreme court was a big step for equaity. George Bush directly appointed Clarence Thomas to the supreme court. Marshall had been the first African American Justice on the Court, and while the appointment of Thomas would preserve the existing racial composition of the Court, he was conservative. -
Magic Johnson’s HIV Announcement
Magic Johnson was a basketball superstar in the U.S.A in the 1980's and 90s. In 1991, he announced that he had contracted HIV. Following this, he abruptly ended his career at a somewhat early age. He then came back for the next year's all star game and this event didn't affect much except for just being big news for spors fans. -

This was an 18 hour mission that US soldiers executed. The US soldiers succesfully saved thousands of lives. It took place in somalia. However, 66% of US citizens viewed it as an unsuccesful mission. -

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFSA) was a pact. It was between the U.S, Mexico, and Canada. The purpose was to eliminate tariffs, but the process was accomplished slowly. Although it was passed in November, it was not in use until January 2019. -

The O.J Simpson trial investigated the accusation of a former NFL player. He was accused of two accounts of murder and was found not guilty on eiher. Although they deemed him not guilty some still wondered if he did. It made Americans realize that even the beloved people in America could be involved in criminal, hidden actions. -
Murder of Matthew Shepard
The murder of Matthew Shepard was a tragic event in which a gay man was beat to death. He was tortured and was brutally killed. The event called attention to how although improvements were being made on equality, the U.S was still very far from equality. Many mourned his death. -
Beginning of NATO bombing in Yugoslavia
The NATO bombing of Yugoslavia was the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation's military operation against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia during the Kosovo War. The bombing killed between 489 and 528 civilians, and destroyed many buildings as well. After the Yugoslav army withdrew, over 164,000 Serbs left Kosovo and many of the remaining civilians were victims of abuse. -
Columbine Shooting
The Columbine shooting was a shooting in a school by 2 students in Colorado. There were 13 deaths and was major nationwide news at the time. This was significant to the whole country because it made people realize that nowhere is necesarily completely safe. Also, this was the first major school shooting in America, and since then, numbers of shootings have increased dramatically. -
Murder of Jon Benet Ramsey
This event was the most recent of the events I researched. Jonbenet Ramsey disappeared in 2006. After searching for a long time, she was found to be dead. This affected citizens in Colorado by bringing attention to how not everything was perfect and many mourned for her death.
