The book "On the Spirit of Laws" was based on the beliefs of Locke. He focused and stressed more on the ideas of separation. He believed and created the checks and balances that we now use in our current government society. -
America declares Independence
It is debated of when America officially declared their independence. In Philidelphia, Pennsylvania, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence saying that they are no longer under the control of the British. They made the Declaration after having to pay taxes on anything that was postal. One was called the Stamp Act. -

The French Revolution went from 1789 to the 1790's. The French objected and got rid of old traditional government like an absolute monarchy. This war was influenced by Enlightenment and unalienable rights. -

Napoleon was very skilled and clever, and with this wit, he conquered and expanded his empire. He expanded for about 8 years and then was disrupted by Russions in 1812. -

Also known as the Haitian Revolution, slaves rebelled in Saint-Domingue. This lead to the climax of the decrease in slaves. This particular revolt led to a founding of a state. It was one of the successful attempts. It was a very imporatant memory for African Americans and the New World. -
Padre Hidalgo calls for Mexican Independence
A man by the name Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, is a very important character that plays in the independence of Mexico. Hidalgo believed in liberal ideas which led him to join forces with a group of people who opposed the Spanish dominance. They tried once in October, but their plan was discovered and had to move the date to September. His image was the Lady of Guadalupe. -
Napoleon defeated at the Battle of Waterloo
In Belgium, Napoleon was defeated by the Duke of Wellington. Napoleon returned after his Egyptian campaign to take control of the French government and save his country before it collapsed. During this year, he suffered much military defeat from the invasion of Russia.
