  • May 5, 1789 Meeting with The Estates General

    The king gave a speech reviewing the circumstances that led to the meeting and what he expected from the Estates-General. He declared himself the peoples greatest friend.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    The founding act of French democracy took place at the very beginning of the Revolution, just a stones throw from the monarchic seat of power in the real tennis room not far from the palace of Versailles, the deputies swore never to separate until they had given France a Constitution.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    Hundreds of Parisians stormed the Bastille, a state prison, seizing 250 barrels of gunpowder and freeing its prisoners. The storming of Bastille was a pivotal moment in the French Revoultion the violent result of a multitude of social, economic, and political crises. This was the turning point in the war. Also before the fight they had to prepare a lot for the fight.

  • Women's March on Versailles

    Women from the marketplace of Paris led the march on versaille. This became one of the most significant events of the French revolution. Eventually forcing the royals to return to Paris.

    Reign of Terror

    A reign of Terror is a period during which there is a lot of violence and killing, especially by people who are in a position of power. The commanders accused him of carrying out a reign of terror. 2,000 people were guillotined in Paris alone during this period.
  • Execution of King XVI

    King Louis was killed for treason against the French revolution government. He also had a lot of money issues because of his grandfather. Also he was not able to pay the money which causes issues. Also he was not ready to give up the throne.
  • Maximillian Robespierre's execution

    Robespierre and a number of his followers were arrested at the hotel de ville in Paris. The next day Robespierre and 21 of his followers were taken to the place de la Revolution ( now the Place de la Concorde), where they were executed by guillotine before a cheering crowd. It maintain an upper limit on wages and prices.
  • Napoleonic Code

    Napoleonic code is French civil code enacted on March 21, 1804 and still extant, with revisions. It was the main influence on the 19th-century civil codes of most countries of continental Europe and Latin America. The code established the supremacy of the husband over his wife and children.
  • Napoleon Crowns himself emperor

    Napoleon crowned himself Emperor Neopoleon at Notre Dame de Paris. According to legend, during the coronation he snatched the crown from the hands of Pope Pius VII and crowned himself, thus displaying his rejection of the authority of the pontiff. It could have been at Reims catherdral.

    The Napoleonic Wars fought in the Iberian Peninsula where the French were opposed by British, Spanish, and Portuguese forces. Napoleon's peninsula struggle contributed considerably to his eventual downfall. But until 1813 the conflict in spain and Portugal through costly exercised only an indirect effect upon the progress of French affairs.

    The Grande Armee led by French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte crossed the Neman River invading Russia from present day Poland. The result was a disaster for the French. The Russian army refused to engage with Napolenos Grande Armee of more than 500,000 European troops.
  • Napoleon is exiled to Elba

    The coalition invaded France and captured Paris, forcing Napoleon to abdicate in April 1814. They exiled him to the Mediterranean island of Elba. Also restored the Bourbons to power. In February 1815, Napoleon escaped from Elba and again took control of France in what became known as the "Hundred Days".
