Richard Cromwell succeeded his father as lord Protector. Richard was not a military commander and lacked the support of the Army which he needed to rule successfully. -

Oliver Cromwell as the third signatory to the death warrant of Charles 1, was named as a regicide. His body was exhumed from Westminster Abbey and posthumously executed. Basically his body was dug up and beheaded.
