Buck adapts to snow, other dogs, and starvation. This Leeds to Buck's metamorphosis because it shows that he is changing and developing into a less primitive dog. This is foreshadowing that he will adapt in many more ways to survive. -
Beaten
In the beginning of the novel, Buck gets beaten by the man wearing the red sweater. This changes Buck by being more careful and becomes more angry and veracious, leading to his savagery. The man red sweater also contributes to Buck's metamorphosis because he shows anger, danger, and blood. The red sweater is a motif because the color red is a symbol of blood. Law of Club and Fang
The law of club and fang is a very important part in Call of the Wild. This symbolizes that human’s cannot be beaten by the fang/ animal. This leeds to Buck's metamorphosis because it makes Buck more obedient. This is juxtaposition, for it is showing the human's power vs. the dog’s power. -
Killing of spitz
The killing of Spitz changes Buck mentally and physically. Buck finally gives in to his emotions and kills his nemesis, the beast in him roared. He sprang upon Spitz in a furry.” Spitz! This shows that Buck has the urge to kill, leading to his metamorphosis. -
Mercedes, Charles, and Hal
When buck had received new owners he was in the hands of inexperienced people. Buck and his team lacked food and nutrition.This contributed to Buck's metamorphosis because they underfeed the dogs, which leads Buck weakness and makes him become more savagery to get food different. This is an allusion to the people who were ill-prepared during that alaskan gold rush -
The Call of the Wild
When Buck heard something from the wild he was intrigued to find out what it was. He felt like the forrest was calling him, but Buck stays strong and doesn't leave John Thorton's side. This brings Buck closer to his metamorphosis because its making buck almost give in to his emotions. This is foreshadowing that Buck will finally go into the forrest. -
Death of John Thorton
When Buck comes back from a major hunt he finds that all of his team is dead, but most of all John Thorton was dead. This makes Buck very angry and his emotions cave in , and he kills the chief of the Yeehat indians who killed John Thorton. Bucks savagery envelopes him and his emotions. This is an allusion to indians who actually killed people for food during the Alaskan gold rush
