The triangle trade
When the Europeans have discovered America they wanted to mass produce some products which the British were not familiar with. The African slaves would harvest crops such as tobacco/cotton which would be sold to Europe. When the merchants traded the product they took a trip south to Africa and exchange the traded goods for slaves. They exported the slaves to America which would take almost 3 months. This went on for almost 300 years until the 13th amendment banned slavery in 1860. -
The establishment of the east indian company
The East Indian Company was established by queen Elisabeth I on the 31 of December 1600. It was formed with the intention of having a trade with India. Many Indian merchants strived to learn the English language to be able to communicate with the other merchants. -
The arrival of "The First fleet"
The first fleets arrival which held over 780 English prisoners that arrived in Port Jackson (Modern Sydney) wich were "transported for life" and were seen as "enemies of the motherland". -
Mass famine for the British settlers - Australia
Not long after the First Fleets arrival, the criminals had to cope with living in a new environment for the English prisoners. Their presence in the new land has changed both their dialect and their usage of slang. Both the prisoners and the guards who came with could not farm on the dry soil which caused them to starve. -
The publishing of "Hobson Jobson"
Hobson-Jobson was a book, or more precisely a dictionary which informed the Indians that some Hindu sounding words in English are not the same. It was used for the English and Indian merchants to have the possibility of communicating with each other.
