Henry's Childhood
Second son of Henry VII, and was overshadowed by his older brother Arthur. He stayed with his mother, Elizabeth of York, while Arthur with his father. When he was younger he hunted, danced, jousted and wrestled.His horse rolled on him in a tournament, crippling one leg and leaving him a chronic invalid.He was a good musician, and had a huge library.He had a real understanding of fortification, ballistics and shipping, and could discuss mathematics and astronomy on equal terms with experts. -

• First married to Arthur, Henry's Brother, but he died and she later married Henry VIII
• Had three children die before having Mary who lived to be queen
• Had a joint coronation ceremony with Henry when he became King.
• Appealed directly to the Holy Roman Emperor (her nephew) and fought to try and stop the annulment of her marriage, but failed and the marriage was annulled 6 years later.
• Had to take the tile of Princess Dowager when divorced and absolutely hated being called it. -

Act of Supremacy 1534
The act of supremacy (1534) was when King Henry changedEngland from a Catholic country to a Protestant country. He did this mainly for selfish reasons: he wanted to divorce Catherine of Aragon, increase the power of the English monarch, and get the money (taxes) that the Roman church received. The citizens of England were actually thrilled to become protestant! It was the same religion, essentially, as Catholicism and they wanted to get out of the taxes they were paying to the Catholic chuch. -

Jane Seymour marries King Henry VIII
Within 24 hours of Anne Boleyn's execution, Jane Seymour and Henry VIII were formally betrothed. However Jane never actually recieved a coronation and many say it was becuase King Henry was waiting for Jane give him a son. It wasn't until early 1537 that Jane became pregnant. King Henry believed that Jane was his first "true wife" and was sure the baby would be a boy.And it was! Jane was able to attend her sons chritining but died 2 week after he was born. Jane was buried with King Henry VIII -

Anne of Cleves and King Henry VIII are married
Anne was ill-suited for life at the English court. Henry did not find his new bride the least bit attractive. In addition to his personal feelings for wanting to end the marriage, there were now political ones as well. She testified that the match had not been consummated and that her previous engagement to the son of the Duke of Lorraine had not been properly broken. She returned to Cleves and married the Duke and lived rest of her life on a quiet countryside. -

Kathryn Howard and King Henry VIII Married
Kathryn first cousin to Anne Boleyn, king Henry's previous wife. Kathryn caught Henry's attention while she was in the court while awaiting the next lady after Anne of Cleves. Sixteen days after he was free of Anne, Henry took his fifth wife, Kathryn Howard, on July 28, 1540. Henry was 49 and his bride was no older than 19. She was executed due to suspicions of her cheating on the King. -

Katherine Parr and King Henry VIII married
Katherine's mother Maud, named her daughter Katherine after Catherine of Aragon King Henry VIII's first wife. Katherine's father died while she was young leaving her mother to raise her and her two siblings. When Katherine was 17 she married her first husband Edward Borough. Her second husband had two children. And when he died she was left with them to raise. Katherine wrote two novels and was the first queen to have work puplished. -

Edward VI becomes King
When Edward's father Henry VIII died, Edward was given the throne at the very young age of only 10. Being a Protestant he introduced a uniform Protestant service in England based on his Book of Common Prayer. He was a very sickly child and named Jane Grey his heir after claiming his sisters were illigetiment and not suite for the throne. Edward died in 1553 leaving the throne to Jane Grey but she was only queen for 9 days before having to give up the throne to rightful ruler Mary. -

Mary I becomes Queen
• Returned England to Roman Catholicism, persecuting Protestants and burning 300 at the stake (gaining her nickname “Bloody Mary”)
• Married to King Philip II of Spain
• Deemed an illegitimate child when Catherine and Henry’s marriage as annulled, but returned to the line in the act of succession in 1544
• Had two false pregnancies but forced to accept that Elizabeth was her successor
• Edward didn't agree with her so he contradicted the act of succession and made Lady Jane Grey next in line -

Second Act of Supremecy
Henry's Act of Supremacy was repealed (1554) in the reign of his Catholic daughter, Mary I. Equally unsurprising, it was reinstated by Mary's Protestant sister, Elizabeth I, when she ascended the throne. Elizabeth declared herself Supreme Governor of the Church of England, and instituted an Oath of Supremacy, requiring anyone taking public or church office to swear allegiance to the monarch as head of the Church and state. Anyone refusing to take the Oath could be charged with treason. -
