Charles I becomes king
Charles was the second son of king James VI of Scotland. Charles I became king in 1625 and he tries to govern according to divine rights. His subjects did not agree to his policies. -
Petition of rights
In 1628 the parliament forces the king to assent to the petition of rights. Since the king signed it he was now banned from passing taxes without the consent of prilment, quartering troops in private homes, and imprisoning a person without charges. -

Charles I is excuted. Puritans end the monarchy and the House of Lords. They tried to set up commanwealth, but it failed. Cromwell imposes martial law. -

Richard Cromwell takes over the government when his father Oliver dies. -
Restoration
A newly elected parliament and Charles II which is the son of Charles I comes to the throne. The return of monarchy is called restoration. -
Glorious revolution
James's second wife has a son. James's older daughter which is Mary and her husband is William of orange was invited to overthrow the throne. William enters enfland In a bloodless invasion called the glorious revolution. -
Charles II death
Charles II does and he leaves no kids behind. James II, his catholic brother, takes the throne. -
English bill of rights
The parliament required William III and Mary II to sign the English bill of rights of 1689. The king and queen rule as limited monarchs.
