History of English in other parts of the world

  • India

    Around the year 1600 the queen of England made routes to trade. One of those routes went to India. The british people ruled over Calcutta, in India. They spoke English, and the natives of Calcutta thought that learning English would give them more oppurtunities in life.
  • Caribbean

    The triangular trade was going on. People from Africa became slaves and were shipped to America and the Caribbean islands. The slaves knew a small amount of English which was the start of a new form of English called "Creole".
  • Australia

    Prisoners from England were transported to Australia and wasn't aloud to come back. Since the prisoners came from England they spoke English, which made the natives of Australia learn the language
