The creation of the East India Company
Queen Elizabeth I created the East India Company in 1600 to develop trade between Britain and India.
In order to trade, both parties communicated in English.
By learning English the Indians experienced a new culture.
The popularity of English in India created two new languages.
Those languages are called, Binglish which is a combination of Bengali and English, and Hinglish, which is a combination of Hindi and English.
English has become the language of the internet and is still growing in India. -
The Triangle Trade
The Triangle Trade occurred in the 17th century and was a slave trade between Britain, West Africa and the Carribean.
In Britain they would load up ships with manufactured goods which they would bring to Africa in return for slaves.
The british ships would then sail off to the Carribean where the slaves were sold at auctions.
The british would get sugar, tobacco and cotton in return and then sail back to Britain with the goods.
This is what turned Britain to a powerhouse back in the day. -
The first fleet
The first fleet was a fleet of 11 ships that arrived in Port Jackson (aka Sydney, Australia) back in 1788.
The ships were filled with prisoners from England who were there to serve time instead of being locked up.
Before the fleet arrived, there were around 250 languages spoken in Australia, today there is only one main language, that being english.
The prisoners used slang like "billy" (meaning a pot) and "tucker" (meaning food).
The English reproduced and ended up today as the main population.
