London Times
The London Times sends out a newspaper saying that the ship, Endurance, was going to sail. If Capitan Shackleton can make it across Antartica then he will be the first to do it, and hold the title for England. -
Departure
Endurance departs from South Georgia Island for her adventure that lies ahead. It takes three days to reach Georgia Island. That is their last stop before they head for ice. -
First signs of ice
Endurance enters the loose ice pack right outside of the arctic circle. There have been rumors going around at the whaling station, suggesting that there are thicker and larger ice flows ahead. This could potentionally block Shackeltons pathway to the great Antarctic. -
Trapped
Endurance, after entering the solid ice pack, gets trapped in the solid ice and can't move. Now their only hope is to get back to South Georgia Island. -
Crushed
After several months of groaning sounds from the ship's 2 feet thick hull, the Endurance finally gives under the immense pressure and force of the surrounding ice floes pushing against it. -
Sunk
The crew of men gather what they can from the wreckage and move onto the solid floe as they crawl, tugging along three row boats. Then they watch their boat sink in the sunset. -
Launch Boats
Now with no ship and just three row boats, Shackelton makes the decision to lug the boats as far north as they can before launching. They finally reach the limit when one of their camp ice floes starts to melt and split in half. Luckily nobody was separated. -
Landed
The exhausted crew of Endurance lands on Elephant Island. The men, some laughing, some crying, simply land on the small pebbles and lay there for awhile before Shackelton and his officers come to wake them up to set up camp. -
Split Ways
Captain Shackelton decides to row to South Georgia Island with a few other crew members in hopes of bringing back a rescue ship. -
Land Ho
Shackelton and his crew of five members land on South Goargia Island. After they get rested, Shackelton and two members cross twenty six miles of uncharted land to the whaling station they left three years earlier. -
Rescued
The crew spent month slaughtering and cooking penguins and seals cooked over seal blubber fires. The crew journeyed out to do their daily chores of chipping ice from a glaicier for water and hunting for food. But they couldn't help themselves from looking over at the ocean to check if the rescue boat had arrived. Finally in just over 4 months, Shakelton and his small crew of six sailors arranged a rescue to Elephant Island. They had been rescued!
