Magna Carta
The Magna Carta was agreed to by King John of England in 1215. It was a charter constituting the guarantee of rights and privileges. -
Petition of Right
The Petition of Riight set liberties of the subject that the king is prohibited from changing. It was put in use in 1628. -
English Bill of Rights
The English Bill of Rights was written as an act of parliament in 1689. It states that the manarch act as head of state but their powers are limited and defined by law. -
Albany Plan of Union
The Albany Plan of Uninon was created to try to unify the thirteen colonies to create a stronger government. Nejamin Franklin proposed it in 1754 in Albany New York. -
Boston Masssacre
The Boston Massacre was a fight that resulted in the death of several colonists in 1770. The Patriot mob was throwing snowballs, sticks, and stones at the British Soldiers who retailiated. -
The Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Part was a group of colonists who dumped the tea into the Boston Harbor in 1771. It was an act againt the British oppression with raising taxes. -
First Contintal Congress
First Coninental Congress was a meeting of representatives from 12 out of the 13 colonies in 1774. They met to discuss that the King and Parliament must be made to understand the colonies grievances of the colonies. -
Second Continental Congress
The Second Continental Congress was a convention with representatives from each colony that was held in 1775 soon after the American Revolutionary War started. Here they suggested means of solving the dispute with Great Britain. -
Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson in 1776. It was a statement of our rights and laws that the government was based off of. -
Articles of confederation
The Articles of Confederation were written during the revolutionary war. The Continental Congress adopted the Articles of Confederation in 1777 but it was raitfied in all 13 states by 1781. -
Shays Rebllion
Many farmers were getting their land taken away and were put into jail due to the eccomonic crisis thus causing Shays Rebllion. Shays Rebellion was a rebllion where the new settlers and farmers rebelled in 1786-1787. -
Virginia Plan
The virginia plan was proposed in 1787 and was drafted by James Madison. It proposed a bicameral legislative branch to further seperate the powers of government. -
Philadelphia Convention
The Philadelphia convention began May 1787 with 55 total delegates from the 12 staes. The convention was held to revise the Articles of Confederation. -
New Jersey Plan
The New Jersey Plan was a proposal of a structure of government that favored the smaller states. It was proposed inn 1787 and called for each state having one vote in congress rather than votes based on population.
