    The First Battle of Bull Run
    Nothern troops gathered in Washinton D.C. to seize Manassas, Virginia. However, the Southern troops defeated the Union.
  • The Battle of Shilloh

    The Battle of Shilloh
    The Battle of Shiloh was the first batlle after the Union dispersed troops into the west. Confederate forces attacked near Shiloh, resulting in thousand of casualities between both armies.
  • The Battle of Chancellorville

    The Battle of Chancellorville
    The South won this battle as part of the rising hope for the South. Stonewell Jackson was killed by his own men by accident.
  • The Peninsular Campaign

    The Peninsular Campaign
    The Union landed in Yorktown to be met by the Confederates, led by General Robert E. Lee. The Confederates defeated the Northerners.
  • Bull Run Second Battle

    Bull Run Second Battle
    McClellan replaced by Gen. Pope. Lee and Gen. Stonewall Jackson defeat Union troops again at Manassas and Pope is replaced by McClellan.
  • The Battle of Antietam

    The Battle of Antietam
    General Lee led the Confederacy to attack the Union. But then a Confederate messenger dropped a copy of the battle plans that was found by a Union soldier. When the Union found that the troops were divided, they attacked which ended in the battle being a draw.
  • Fredericksburg

    General Burnside attacks Lee's fortified position and suffers 10,000 casualties for the Confederacy.
  • The Battle of Gettysburg

    The Battle of Gettysburg
    Confederate troops. almost accidentally, discovered Union weapons in Gettysburg Pennslyvania. The Confederates attacked but the Union won the war lasting three days. This battle crushed General Lee's hopes of carrying the fight further up North.
  • Vicksburg

    Vicksburg
    After a long siege, Vicksburg surrenders to Grant. All of the Missisippi River is now in Union control.
  • Petersburg

    Grant focuses on important railroad junction and communication outside Richmond. Long siege of Petersburg begins with troops living in trenches which stretched for 50 miles

    The Fall of Atlanta
    General Sherman took command of the Union army during the fall of Atlanta.
  • Sherman's march to the sea

    Sherman's march to the sea
    General Sherman made his army follow the "scorch earth policy" and burned down and tear up everything. Union forces drove out the Confederates out of Atlanta.
  • Surrender at Appomattox

    Surrender at Appomattox
    Sherman continued his burning through North Carolina in hope of reaching Virginia. General Grant later accepted General Lee's surrender in the Appomattox Court House.
