In one year, China's economy shattered from The Great Leap Forward becaue of poor agriculture production, droughts, and floods. 20 million people starved while millions more died from disease. After the abandoning of the Great Leap Forward, many people called for a reform. -
The Red Days
Many people called for a reform after The Great Leap Forward. Mao Zedong did not like this and made a movement called "The Cultural Revolution". The movements purpose was to get rid of any opposition at the Mao Zedong, or the Communist Party. The people who supported Mao were called "The Red Guards", who punished whoever spoke against Mao Zedong. Yet again China fell into chaos, its economy lowering, making also the government not be able to do much. Again, Chinese people called for a reform. -

The Start of a New Era
On 1976, Mao Zedong died, and so with that death the Cultural Revolution also stopped. Moderators who wished to restore order and economic growth soon took over, with their leader Deng Xiaoping. -

When Deng Xiaoping finally became the leader of China, he followed the Four Modernizations, and made diplomatic relations with the U.S and made more trade with other countries. Deng also made reforms, giving farmers their own land. Another reform was the Police Force was lowered, but the government still help nearly all the power. -

The Genocide. or Massacre
During 1989, the Chinese Military did not allow a human right (freedom of speech) to take place at Tiananmen Square. At that square people were protesting for democracy for weeks at Beijing. Soon this example spread to other cities, thats when the military attacked and killed hundreds (and wounded thousands) to end the protesting. As these events spread around the world spoke up about the Chinese Government and its rights. -
